Georgie was most well know to Manchester United Fans for his talent on the field rather than off it. His ability both off and on the ball, as well as his creative flair, made him a superstar over night. Most supporters will remember the goal he scored where he was scythed down by 'Chopper' Harris, but stayed up after the tackle and rounded the goal keeper to score. Also, he helped United to win European Cup in '68, against Benfica. He scored the all important second goal to give Manchester United their first ever European Cup victory. George had a talent for scoring great goals. He could mesmerize anybody who watch him, as well as make world class defenders look like amateurs. One thing about George was that he truly is a Legend. Due to an obsession with alcohol, George damaged one of his kidneys. He was forced to have a kidney transplant to help save his life. This operation was successful and he was given a second chance. He then tried to stop drinking alcohol, during his marriage to his newest Wife Alex. In the end, it all proved too much to him and he started to drink again. It was from this that he became ill again. He was taken to hospital where he stayed for a total of eight weeks before the doctors could do no more for him. He may have died at an early age, but to millions of people throughout the world he will always be a Legend and stay with us in our hearts. Good bye Georgie Boy we are all gonna miss you. |
